A timber ceiling runs the length of the floor and sets the temperature of the whole room before anything else does. Under it, curved silhouettes and textured rugs keep the scale human.
Ambient light does the rest — layered, low, never pointed at anyone. The room works for a large evening and for one person reading in it, which is the harder of the two to design for.
